Organisation description

The EEA was created by the Euroepean Union in 1990 and is operational since 1994. Its core task is to provide decision-makers with the information needed for making sound and effective policies to protect the environment and support sustainable development. The information provided by the EEA focuses in particular on assessing the current and future state of the environment across Europe and the pressures upon it. The Agency's tasks also include disseminating best practice in environmental protection and technologies, and supporting the European Commission in diffusing information on the results of environmental research.
